Sleepover Kickoff!!!

Last Friday Dynamics team had the kickoff sleepover after a long and deserving first week of summer practices!!! We played games and watched movies and ate all the junk food we could get our hands on...and of coarse there was gymnastics to. Brittany (one of my old teammates who is now the level 4 coach) and me, pulled out our old skills and started showing off doing giants and playing on the bars. But both of us admitted the next day was very much in pain...lol. My new level 5's and GOGL 3's are fun and exciting to work with and are all hard workers. We have a long road ahead and it will be a tough summer to learn all these new skills but we are all excited to see our developing team. Dynamics is truly going to be a tough team to beat next year!!!

Weekly Inspirational Words of Wisdom

Champion Poem

You fear the loss and pain of defeat
But still are able to stand on two feet
You crumble and cry as much as you want
But nothing can keep you away from the hunt
This is what you’ve been working for
The pride and honor as you take to the floor
You remember the struggles and pain you had
When all the good had turned to bad
When behind the scenes you crumbled and prayed
For it all to simply just go away
The doubt and regrets of what you went through
Sometimes just made you want to give it to
The next girl in line that had gave it her all
But always seemed to carry a fall
You remember the times when you thought to give up
But could never find a reason to disrupt
Anything and everything that you had given to the sport
The hearts desire and all the support
But when the pressure builds and tears you apart
How are you able to not depart
How are you able to still carry a smile
When everything inside is in a pile
You hold your head high and never look back
Because this is what keeps you all intact
It’s what runs in your veins, and it’s the key to your heart
And it’s only the beginning, only the start
It holds a future that could never be told
One that can shine with the brightest of gold
The sky is its limits
And with the mood as its guide
As no one could ever predict how high
One could travel with the hard work put in
To truly become a champion

Inspirational Words of Wisdom!!!

Today's practice seemed to be tough...Motivation was down and frustration started to kick in. One frustration starts to settle in it seems like the girls start to quit trying and get upset. I came across this quote today when I was researching for this weeks words of inspiration and I thought it fit not only in sports and practices but also in life."You are never a loser until you quit trying."

Weekly Inspirational Words of Wisdom

I think sometimes in sports as competitive as gymnastics everyone needs to have a little motivation and inspiration pulled from within themselves. We all have our own ways of inspiring us to be great. One of my ways was to find inspirational quotes!!! I have decided to post one quote or phrase every Friday that I feel is inspirational!!!
This Weeks Quote:
Champions aren't made in the gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them -- a desire, a dream, a vision.

End of a season and saying goodbye

Its been a while since I have posted...I have been super busy with the team getting the summer schedule ready. I am happy to say its the end to a long and tough season. We finished with a bang and now gearing up for new and exciting changes for next year. Unfortunately we have lost three of our girls to a new gym. Its sad to see them go but I hope the best for them and wish lots of luck!!! With that said I can't wait to kick off the summer!!! I will be the head coach for our GOGL level 3's and one of the head coaches for the 5's starting this summer. We have a lot planned in making the team better and stronger and I truly believe we will dominate the competition next year. I wish Hannah good luck at regionals. Also I posted some pictures from the season!!!

Missouri Winter Games 2009!!!

This weekend I went to the Missouri Winter Games to watch my team girls compete for Dynamics Gymnastics. The girls did a fabulous job overall and I'm proud to be one of their coaches. While we were there two Olympic gymnasts made an appearance. Jonathan Horton who won a silver and a bronze medal and Nastia Luikin who won the gold in the all around competition both signed autographs and did a short performance. I didn't get Johnathan's autograph because I had to work during his signing but I did get to watch both performances, meet Nastia, and get her autograph. I've included some pictures of a few of the level 5's, Nastia, and Johnathon (some of the pictures are blurry...sorry my dad was the photographer on the signing and I couldn't use the flash in the gym area...but they still came out pretty good!!) . Also I'm posting videos of Nastia's and Johnathon's performance!!!

RIPS

As a gymnastics Coach I often get asked what to do when gymnasts gets rips. The truth is we all have are own treatment methods and not a single coach can agree on the best method. The other day I came upon this website that gives a tip on how to take care of gymnasts hands. I thought it was helpful and informative so I decided to post it here along with the link of the page I got it from http://conocophillipsgymnastics.com/:
BEFORE YOU RIP:
1. After every workout, wash your hands with soap and water, then rub hand lotion into the front and back of your hands.
2. Prevent excess callous from building up by rubbing the affected areas with a pumice stone. To find the areas of excess callous, soak the hands in water for about ten minutes and you will be able to notice areas on the palm that retain a whitish color while the rest of the skin stays pink. Use the pumice stone only as necessary. Excessive use will cause the hands to be constantly sore during workouts.
3. Rub hand lotion into your hands at night before going to sleep and if necessary, when you get up in the morning. Always keep your hands moist.
WHEN YOU FIRST RIP
1. Remove the excess skin carefully. Then wash with soap and water.
2. Don’t put lotion on a fresh rip. Instead use an antibiotic ointment so the injured area has a chance to breathe. You may use products such as “Second Skin” or “Nuskin” that comes in patch or liquid form and my be placed directly over the rip.
3. Before going to sleep at night, put some antibiotic ointment on your rip and cover your hand with a sock or glove with the fingers cut out
to keep the ointment off the sheets and out of your eyes. This treatment should continue until the rip is covered with new skin.
AFTER YOU HAVE RIPPED
1. Once new skin has covered the rip, continue using hand lotion. If rip is allowed to dry up, the skin will crack and you will continue to rip in the same spot. Sometimes rubbing chapstick over a drying rip can also prevent cracking.
2. There is a saying I have heard, “discipline weighs ounces while regret weighs a ton.” Discipline yourself to take care of your hands before and after every workout.

Dreams and Goals!!!

For my first official blog I would like to explain what Oklahoma Stars Gymnastics is. If you know me you already know that my dream is to run and own a gymnastics club in either Oklahoma or Missouri. I intend to adjust the name of the gym according to which state I will be living in, but as of now I hope for my gym to be established in Oklahoma. Why is this? Well because it is my home away from home. I was born there and half of my family is from there. I hope to use this blog to document my progress and process of making my dream a reality. I have a long road ahead of me that requires me to finish school first. However, I'm always planning on the future and doing what I can to fulfill my dream!!!
